ABOUT US...

Our Philosophy
At Sanctuary, we believe wellbeing begins with creating space to slow down.
In a world that asks us to be constantly doing, giving and moving, we offer a gentler rhythm, one that allows the body to soften, the nervous system to settle and space to simply be. Through rest, connection and intentional experiences, we create opportunities to step away from the noise of everyday life and return to what feels grounding, nourishing and meaningful.
At Sanctuary, you are invited to pause, reconnect and just be.

"A Place where you feel welcomed held and safe to just be"

Our Story
The story behind Sanctuary and how it came to be personal, warm, and rooted in Lisa’s journey. Sanctuary began during a time of profound change in my own life. After my separation in 2023, I found myself imagining a new beginning. My original dream was to find a piece of land on the Awhitu Peninsula and create a sanctuary, a place where people could step away from the demands of everyday life, feel safe, connect with others and simply be. Life, however, had a different path in mind. When I was given the opportunity to remain in my home in Karaka, I realised that perhaps I did not need to go searching for Sanctuary somewhere else. I could create it right here. What began as an idea for a safe and welcoming space, particularly for women, gradually grew alongside my own journey.
During this time, I completed two coaching qualifications and immersed myself in learning about the patterns and experiences that shape who we are and how we move through life. My studies explored areas including self limiting beliefs, shadow work, childhood experiences and trauma, relationships and narcissistic behaviours, alongside a growing understanding of the nervous system and the importance of creating safety within ourselves.
I went on to study Reiki, Zu Qigong and sound healing, bringing together practices that became meaningful parts of my own understanding of rest, healing and connection. Slowly, my home began to evolve into Sanctuary.
Today, Sanctuary is a place where people can gather, rest, experience something new, connect with others or simply take some time for themselves. It has grown beyond my original vision, but the intention at its heart has remained the same.
To create a place where you can feel welcomed, held and safe enough to just be.

Good Food Bright Minds
Sanctuary's Community
Community has always been an important part of the heart of Sanctuary. Good Food Bright Minds grew from a simple belief that every child deserves to begin their day with something nourishing to eat and the opportunity to arrive at school ready to learn. What began as a desire to help has grown into a hands on community initiative, providing free breakfasts for local children and families and creating practical ways for our wider community to give and be involved.
Through Good Food Bright Minds and initiatives such as The Giving Table, we are able to turn connection and generosity into meaningful support, reminding us that even small acts of kindness can make a real difference in someone’s day.
